Run your household money in one place — plan the month, log daily spending, track joint income, pay recurring bills on time and save for the big moments.
Open the Budget app
- Go to Family House from the top menu.
- On the house you want, click Members & Activity.
- Choose the Budget tab.
At the top of the Budget tab you'll find two controls that drive everything below them:
Overview — the month at a glance
Four summary cards and a category breakdown for the selected month:
Spending by Category lists each category with a bar showing its share of the month's spending.
Budget Plan — decide before you spend
- Select Budget Plan. If the month has no plan yet, click Create Budget.
- Click + Add Item, choose a Category, enter the Planned Amount (₹) and optional notes, then Add to Budget.
- Repeat for each category you want to control (Groceries, Fuel, Education…).
Each line shows Plan, Actual (from Daily Expenses) and how much you are Under or Over, with a progress bar:
- Green — below 80% of plan
- Amber — 80% to 99%
- Red — 100% or more
Daily Expenses — log what you spend
Select Daily Expenses and click + Add. Fill in:
Working with the list
- List by Date Entered By Paid By — groups the list and shows a total for each group. A filter lets you pick one date or one person.
- Row actions: Edit and Delete (your own entries), Duplicate to copy an expense to another date, and Cancel / Return for returnable items. Cancelled items stay visible but are excluded from totals.
- The summary panel below the list shows Last Date By, By Payer, By Category and By Date. It starts collapsed — click to expand.
- The list refreshes itself every 30 seconds, so entries made by other members appear without reloading.
Manage expense categories
Each house keeps its own category list. From Daily Expenses open Manage Expense Categories to:
- Add a new category with a name and icon.
- Edit the name or icon.
- Turn off a category you no longer use (it disappears from the form but past expenses keep it).
- Delete an unused category, or load the defaults to start with a ready-made list.
Family Joint Income & Member Transfers
Select Family Joint Income. It has two sub-tabs.
Joint Income
Click Record Joint Income for money that comes into the household:
Member Transfers
Click Transfer Money when one member hands money to another (for example, the custodian gives the monthly kitchen money). Choose From, To, amount, date and method. Each member's Sent, Received and Available balance is shown so everyone knows who holds what.
Spending Targets
Targets are spending limits for a week or month — across everything or for one category.
- Select Targets and click Set Target.
- Pick Weekly or Monthly, an optional Category (or All), the Start and End dates and the Target Amount.
Each target shows Target vs Spent with a progress bar, so you can slow down before you cross the line.
Important & Special Work
A dedicated fund for a big goal, kept separate from day-to-day spending.
- Select Important & Special Work and click Create.
- Enter a Title, Type (Property Purchase, Emergency Medical, Education, Wedding, Vehicle Purchase, Home Renovation, Travel / Pilgrimage, Emergency, Other), the Target (₹) and optional start / end dates.
- Open the fund to manage it:
The fund card shows Target, Collected, Spent and Available. Use Edit Fund to change details.
Recurring bills — rent, milk, electricity…
Set a bill up once as a Recurring Head; Gripar reminds you every period.
Add a head
Select Recurring → + Add Head. Give it a Name, a Type (Rent, Electricity, Water, Gas / PNG, Internet, Cable TV, Phone, Insurance, EMI, School Fee, Tuition, Milk, Newspaper, Maid, Driver, Watchman, Maintenance, Subscription, Other), a Frequency (Daily, Monthly, Quarterly, Half Yearly, Yearly), the Base Amount and Payment Timing (Advance or Arrears). Vendor and beneficiary are optional.
Three kinds of bill
| Kind | Examples | What you do each period |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed | Rent, School Fee, Internet, Maid | Click Payment and record what you paid. |
| Consumption | Electricity, Water, Gas / PNG | Click Record Usage, enter units used — the amount is worked out from the rate. |
| Daily Log | Milk, Newspaper | Click Daily Log to open a calendar. Log quantity per day, or select several days and use Log Selected / Mark Absent. The month total becomes the bill. |
Each entry shows its status — Pending, Partial, Paid or Overdue — and unpaid amounts carry forward as arrears.
Reports & export
Select Reports and choose a period:
Expense Report with Excel / PDF
- In Daily Expenses, click Report.
- Choose Full Month or a Specific Date, optionally filter by Entered By or Paid By, and click Generate.
- Review the tables — All Expenses, By Category, By Payer, By Entered By — then download as Excel or PDF.
