Share costs fairly between family members. Log who paid, choose how to split, and Gripar works out who owes whom — month by month, or for a special event like a wedding or trip.
Open Split Expenses
- Go to Family House and click Members & Activity on a house.
- Open the Split Expenses tab.
- Choose a mode: Monthly Split for day-to-day shared costs, or Special Event or Occasion for one-off events (see step 6).
- Pick the month with the ‹ › arrows or the month box.
Four cards summarise the month for you:
Add a shared expense
Under Expenses, click + Add expense:
Choose how to split
| Split | Use it when | Example (₹1,200, 3 people) |
|---|---|---|
| Equally | Everyone shares the same | ₹400 each |
| Unequal amounts | You know each person's exact part | ₹600 / ₹400 / ₹200 |
| By percentage | Shares are agreed percentages | 50% / 30% / 20% |
| By shares | Units such as people per family | 2 : 1 : 1 → ₹600 / ₹300 / ₹300 |
Tick the members who take part. Members who have passed away are hidden from the payer and participant lists.
Read the expense list
- List by Date, Entered By, Paid By or Category — each group shows its count and total, and a filter lets you focus on one date, person or category.
- Each row shows the split badge (e.g. Equal ÷4), who paid, who entered it, the date and your share.
- Row actions: View, Edit, Duplicate and Delete.
- The summary panel underneath adds up Last Date By, By Payer, By Category, By Date and Shares.
- The list refreshes every 30 seconds while it is open.
Settle up & finalize the month
Open Settle up. Gripar nets everything out and shows the fewest payments needed — for example “Ramesh pays Sunita ₹850”.
- When someone pays back, mark that settlement as paid.
- Added or changed expenses? Settlements update automatically while the month is open; Recalculate forces a refresh.
- When everyone agrees, click Finalize Month. Expenses for that month are then locked — you can still view and report on them.
- Unpaid balances can be moved on with Copy to Next Month; they appear as an opening balance there.
Reports
Open Reports (or click Report above the list):
Special Event or Occasion
Weddings, pujas, trips and festivals often run across months and involve only some members. Keep them separate so they don't mix with monthly sharing.
- Switch the mode to Special Event or Occasion and click + New event.
- Choose the type — Wedding, Festival, Puja / Ritual, Birthday, Anniversary, Trip / Tour, Party, Funeral / Shraddh, Griha Pravesh or Other — and an optional budget.
- Add Event members from the house members.
- Inside the event use the tabs Expenses, Payments (advances or contributions), Settle up and Report.
- When done, Close event. A closed event is read-only; Re-open it if something was missed.
The events list shows Active, Closed or All events, each with total spend, a budget bar, members and your net. Event reports export to Excel, PDF or Print.
